Hello. I saw your story on TV last week, and I was really moved. I saw a group of you demonstrating yesterday, and decided to write. I can’t understand how the DHS or any state agency for that matter, can possibly hope to know what’s truly best for a total stranger.
I know first hand that many social workers for the Iowa Department of Human Services are unscrupulous. I am in law enforcement, and have seen it. Their only priority seems to be proving their case. I’m not going to tell you that the same kind of thing never happens in law enforcement, but I will tell you that we are trained to know what our constitutional boundaries are.
One DHS social worker that I had contact with during the execution of a court ordered search, asked me to embellish a report in order to strengthen their case. She explained to me the supposed danger to the victim, and that it was imperative that they have an air-tight case, and that my report would help the victim. At the time it seemed appropriate, so I agreed with her and went along with it…I figured the ends justifies the means. In hindsight, I am ashamed of what I have done, because I have found out that there was much more to the case than I was aware of at the time I filed the report.
Just know that I am very sorry for your plight, and will pray for you and your grandma. I hope your family is soon reunited.

My name is Antoinette Watson, and I saw your story on the news and I saw someone demonstrating today on the corner of University and 6th Ave (I'm assuming this was the grandson) Anyway, I want to just say my heart is with your family and I hope everything works out well for you. I am planning on writing a few letters on your behalf to the congressman as well as the senators.
I don't understand how this even happened. I remember seeing something on the news about an elderly lady being kidnapped and found at dairy queen. The entire Department of Human Service I don't particularly trust for one reason or another. I have never had an experience with DHS about an elderly loved one, however it doesn't surprise me what they are doing. The bad part about it is that, you are not the only one. I'm sure there are a lot of people that is going through this same situation your family is going through. Are you getting any help from any public officials?
I commend you for not keeping quiet and making the public aware of what you and your family is going through. Please keep your website updated so I can follow your situation. You will be in my prayers...

Hi, Our family has dealt with Greg Sweem before also. He came to our house to “investigate” a “child abuse” call from some one who had a grudge against our family. Thank the Lord nothing came from it other than a nasty letter from DHS that basically stated that: We can’t prove anything but you better watch it. Greg Sweem is a jackass that works for jackasses and they should all be fired by the tax payers of Iowa. In our family DHS is referred to as the Childhood Nazis. We will be praying for your family.

My mother went through some hard times and the DHS took advantage of us,she was placed
at fluer hieghts due to a staff infection, and that place is hell between mercy and them I could
have killed some staff members my anger subsided thank god,my mom did not speak english that well being an itialian imigrent,several times there I found her in the hall ways just trying to go to the rest room with no staff around,one night she fell into conjested heart
failuer no one notified me until 10 the next day that she was on her way to Mercy. lucky
she survived, DHS tell you their there to help you but in order to do that they must rob you first over and over again.After mom passed In 2002 I was left with the house since the will
was in my name four months passed and I got a letter from DHS in the form of a bill
statement saying sorry for your loss but you owe us $21000, I got a lawyer they gave
me so much time to pay them. I lost the battle and ended up paying $25000 I had to pay
my lawyer and thiers.there is no justice ,they went as far as trying to sell my property
without me knowing thanks to a deed they failed but they added interest to the at 4%
I have no regrets my mom needed care and me being a male was the only one around
My bitch sister did not lift a finger so her hand remained empty after she seeked the will
all I know is that God helped get through this hard time in life, and all I can say is that
DHS stands for Department of heartless scumbaggs......

I think that it is sinful what dhs is doing. It broke my heart to see your grandma on tv. If they want to help why in the hell don't they send help in for the daughter. And leave grandma in her own home. It would cost a hell of a lot less and grandma would live a longer happier life to be with her family. This really has me upset. I was lucky I had my mom with me in my home. Until she was 87. It wasn't easy. But wouldn't trade the memories for anything. You have my email address if you get grandma home and need some help. Hello, I received one of the flyer's handed out at grays lake. you have a tuff road ahead of
you I'am praying for you, sorry I do not have time right now to join you but I would like
to be informed I have your phone number and I will call talking with someone allways
helps me. you see my remaining family members and relatives were not around me
at the time of my moms death they all took up with sister. I had no one to help me
with grief, I know in my heart I did every thing I could for mom & dad I kept them at
home till the end, even though I paid a stiff price for that I have no regrets just
emptyness for not havening them here.A good friend told me look they left you
you did not leave them and they love you for that. I will call, and God bless you

John, Your right the FBI or some law investigstion org should be watchting ,my Mother
passed away at Hospice house in johnston but she was home till the day before she
passed. I think she probally thought she was going to another care center. The DHS
did not explain a lot things to me or my Mother such as a Bill, she did not speak
english she told me on several ocasions that she signed forms at the care center
but they were never disclosed to me, you have to be there 24/7 in those places.If I
of any one who can help I'll let you know kepp me informed and when I can spare
